Burke & Wills 150th Anniversary (August 2010)
20th August 2010 marked 150 years since the Burke & Wills Expedition set off from Royal Park in Melbourne, so we joined Vic Widman from Great Divide Tours and set off, along with 12 other 4WD's, to retrace their steps. We drove from Sydney to Melbourne to commence the trip, which then took us north through Bendigo, Swan Hill, Mungo National Park, Menindee, Broken Hill, Mutawintji National Park, Mt Isa, The Dig Tree, Innamincka, Boulia, Cloncurry, Normanton and finally finishing up in Karumba.
We left our Great Divide Tours friends in Karumba and set off back to Sydney via Mt Isa, Cloncurry, Longreach, Winton, Charleville, Lightening Ridge & Bourke.
This was a great trip which took us 5 weeks and we travelled over 8000 km. The file below is the diary that our 4WD tour group kept throughout our Burke & Wills trip (each car taking turns of writing the diary for that day).
