GDT Day (18 August 2019)
We spend so much time exploring by ourselves, sometimes it’s nice to head out with others and meet some new people, so we decided to join one of Great Divide Tours tag-a-long tours, the ‘Cox’s and Kowmung Rivers’ trip. We've done a lot of trips with GDT over the years and both did our driver training with them aswell.
On this trip there were 9 4WD’s in total, all with varying degrees of experience. This particular tour wasn't difficult 4WDing by any means, but it’s spectacular scenery ... and we saw snow! The day was taking us on the historic Six Foot Track. The 45km track was constructed in the late 1880s as a bridle trail. It was 6 feet wide to allow 2 laden horses to pass. Nowadays this is a well-known hiking route. But if you’re like us and think ‘why would you walk when you can drive’, there is a perfectly good 4WD track which we much prefer (just watch for those walkers as the 4WD track is also the walking track in some places). We drove through national parks, visited the Cox’s river, passed through Jenolan Caves, and saw some beautiful scenery.
We started the day driving through fire (hazzard reduction burn), drove across a river and drove through snow ... throw in the awesome scenery, great company, beautiful sunset and we can say we had a terrific day. Sometimes it’s hard to believe you can encounter all this and be only an hour or so from Sydney.
