Fraser island (april 2014)
Over the Easter break we took off to Fraser Island again, spending a week exploring the island and all it has to offer. The weather was great and once the long weekend was over, the number of people on the island dropped significantly which was great for us!
This year it was us, Kylie and Robbie who went together. Once there we met up with Tony & Annette, Leanne, Peter & Catelyn and Tony's mate Jason and his kids Brandon, Caitlin & Cameron. In total there were 13 of us in 4 cars. The others were camping in the caravan park at Cathedrals on Fraser, so this year we had to camp further north than we normally do to be closer to them. We found ourselves a nice beach camping spot about 3km north of Cathedrals, not as protected as our normal spot and a little out of the way, but still a nice area.
There was a lot of increased dingo activity this year, many dingos around camp and along the beach. And we saw a joey up at Orchid Beach, first one we've seen on the island! Again we managed to explore a lot of the island and had great weather most of the time. The day we headed to Sandy Cape, we got stuck at Ngkala Rocks for a while after some cars got bogged and got hit by torrential rain! Not the best for the track conditions, but the day ended up clearing up to a hot and sunny day. To see a map of where we travelled to, click here (highlighted in pink).
