Lithgow & Surrounds (29th February 2020)
'Family' road trip with the dogs! Headed out to Lithgow for a day of sightseeing, exploring and 4WDing. Apart from a small incident with some kangaroos and two naughty dogs, it was a great day! We spend a lot of time out Lithgow way but on this particular day we found many places we’d never visited before and we saw the devastation from the recent fires, so very sad.
We visited the Blast Furnace Park, Bracey Lookout, Hassans Walls Lookout, Lake Lyell Recreation Park, Rydal, Lake Wallace, Wallerawang, Portland and Lidsdale State Forest.
You may have heard of the Silo Art Trail, which began in 2015. Now there are 35 painted silos in the Australian Silo Art Trail with more to come. We’ve never actually visited any of the sites so when we found out one was so close by we had to go and pay a visit. The Portland Silos are known as "The Foundations" and these were completed in May 2018 and were the 20th Silos to be included in the Australian Silo Art Trail. These are truly amazing, it’s hard to believe that someone actually painted that.
These old silos are at the old Portland Cement Works and were painted by Guido van Helten. The paintings depict five males and one female, all of which were past Portland Cement Works workers and all are apparently still living in Portland today (sadly I believe one passed away late last year).
